Bury A Friend Lyrics
Billie
What do you want from me? Why don’t you run from me?
What are you wondering? What do you know?
Why aren’t you scared of me? Why do you care for me?
When we all fall asleep, where do we go?
(Come here)
Say it, spit it out. What is it exactly?
You’re payin’? Is the amount cleanin’ you out? Am I satisfactory?
Today, I’m thinkin’ about the things that are deadly
The way I’m drinkin’ you down
Like I wanna drown, like I wanna end me
Step on the glass, staple your tongue (ah)
Bury a friend, try to wake up (ah-ah)
Cannibal class, killing the son (ah)
Bury a friend, I wanna end me
I wanna end me
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna… end me
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna…
What do you want from me? Why don’t you run from me?
What are you wondering? What do you know?
Why aren’t you scared of me? Why do you care for me?
When we all fall asleep, where do we go?
(Listen)
Keep you in the dark. What had you expected?
Me to make you my art and make you a star?
And get you connected?
I’ll meet you in the park, I’ll be calm and collected
But we knew right from the start that you’d fall apart
‘Cause I’m too expensive
It’s probably somethin’ that shouldn’t be said out loud
Honestly, I thought that I would be dead by now (wow)
Calling security, keepin’ my head held down
Bury the hatchet or bury a friend right now
The debt I owe, gotta sell my soul
‘Cause I can’t say no, no, I can’t say no
Then my limbs are frozen, my eyes won’t close
And I can’t say no, I can’t say no
(Careful)
Step on the glass, staple your tongue (ah)
Bury a friend, try to wake up (Ah-ah)
Cannibal class, killing the son (ah)
Bury a friend, I wanna end me
I wanna end me
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna… end me
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna…
What do you want from me? Why don’t you run from me?
What are you wondering? What do you know?
Why aren’t you scared of me? Why do you care for me?
When we all fall asleep, where do we go?

Bury A Friend Song Review

So Billie Eilish released a song called ‘bury a friend’ in 2019, the video of this song is similar to the creepy ones she has put out in the past but this one seems to be taking the cake, which is quite appropriate as this song is composed from the perspective of the monster underneath the bed.
Chorus
What do you want from me? Why don’t you run from me?
What are you wondering? What do you know?
Why aren’t you scared of me? Why do you care for me?
When we all fall asleep, where do we go?
Most probably the most bewitching part of this whole song is the lyrics of the refrain. It is the lyrics like these that give the insubstantial, scary, and very intense feeling.
Bille Eilish said the below quote in reference to this song:
“‘bury a friend’ is literally from the perspective of the monster under my bed. If you put yourself in that mindset, what is this creature doing or feeling? . . . I also confess that I’m this monster, because I’m my own worst enemy. . . . I might be the monster under your bed too
This is just getting creepy and the idea here is that this song is composed from the perspective of a monster under Billie’s bed, and she also admits that she is her own worst foe.
And here we are not referring to some cool-looking spider monster that you can show off wearing on a crown or something like that but, the monster is really an antagonistic enemy that tries to hurt her in some way.
So if we take a look at such questions in the refrain like, “What do you want from me?” the monster answers with another question: “Why don’t you run from me?” and apparently Billie is kind of chill and cool even in the presence of a monster, which kind of shows she really doesn’t give a damn about anything now, be it some life crisis or a monster under the bed.

Then we have more questions like, “What are you wondering? What do you know? Why aren’t you scared of me? Why do you care for me?” so Billie confesses that she likes this monster, or that she becomes her own monster sometimes, it would all make sense why she cares for this monster and she cares for this alter ego of her that is kind of creepy, scary and dangerous to herself.
When we all fall asleep, where do we go?
I believe this is the same metaphorical question everyone has heard of: When we die, what happens? and what’s the point of all this life.
So here the monster starts asking some deeply philosophical questions. It could be possibly a round-about way to get to the depression or anxiety at the same point, or maybe a mental problem or illness in some way.
I don’t think it’s unhealthy or self-harming to ask philosophical questions but if the questions are asked by some monster under the bed then we’ve got to reconsider the source.
The music video has been created so creepy and basically, there is that one scene that kind of says it all about Billie being her own monster.
When the camera focus moves down from the guy who’s actually resting on the bed and then you see Billie herself down there which describes the idea that Billie is her own monster.
And through the rest of the song video, we all see Billie being handled by several arms only without the rest of the body and many syringes are stuck in her back, we see her being her best creepy and act like a total ghost.
They did a pretty good job in describing the fact that Billie and her nightmare monster are the same and she’s actually being tortured by herself in her nightmares in the music video.
She just not only gets tortured by herself as the nightmares but she also seems to care for this side of her, that is the monster under her bed; Billie herself is the monster.
No the rest of the lyrics are not so meaningful or logical in any way they just vibe along with the music. There is not much story to the rest of the lyrics but I would still point out some of the lines in between that actually makes sense or describe a story.
Verse 1
Come here
Say it, spit it out, what is it exactly
You’re payin’? Is the amount cleanin’ you out? Am I satisfactory?
Today, I’m thinkin’ about the things that are deadly
The way I’m drinkin’ you down
Like I wanna drown, like I wanna end me
We see some very exact references to suicide here in this verse; If this is her monster talking, then it could be some parts of her darker thoughts. This is quite famous and seems to be working for a lot of artists to assign the darker ego of their intellect to another personality. We have seen a lot of artists replicating it like Twenty One Pilots, NF, The weekend to an extent, and many more.
Verse 2
Listen
Keep you in the dark, what had you expected?
Me to make you my art and make you a star
And get you connected?
I’ll meet you in the park, I’ll be calm and collected
But we knew right from the start that you’d fall apart
‘Cause I’m too expensive
It’s probably somethin’ that shouldn’t be said out loud
Honestly, I thought that I would be dead by now (Wow)
Calling security, keepin’ my head held down
Bury the hatchet or bury a friend right now
Now if here Billie is talking to her monster, then she’s singing that; Yeah you’re under the bed, it sucks to be like you, but what were you awaiting?
Or if it’s the vice versa: Monster talking to Billie then it’s seemingly talking about how it’s gonna torment her because it’s what it does, duh!
The monster under the bed is primarily stating that it exceeds Billie and that she is only going to shut up and put with it.
